KAAFEE
Sathya Sai Ashram, Brindavan | A Quaint Coffee Kiosk
Tucked within the quiet sanctuary of the Sathya Sai Ashram’s Brindavan Campus, we designed this quaint coffee kiosk to blend with its lush surroundings and foster a dialogue between architecture and nature. Following principles of sustainability and circular economy, the structure relies almost entirely on reclaimed materials: recycled terracotta roof tiles from the Puttaparthi Ashram form the canopy; old wooden balustrades were repurposed as counter supports and hand rests; Cuddapah stone from the previous kiosk was reused for flooring with red-grouted bands; and granite slabs became countertops, backsplashes, and a handcrafted sink. Old metal grill doors were reused as trellises on the brick walls for creepers, adding greenery to the surface while protecting the walls. As sunlight filters through the trees and softly illuminates the interiors, Kāffee becomes more than just a coffee stop, it is a cosy, peaceful space where design and nature come together, inviting visitors and residents to pause, reflect, and enjoy its warmth, simplicity, and nostalgic charm.
